Summer School Objectives
By completing this summer school, students will:
- Aquaculture Systems & Trends: Understand global trends, the importance of aquaculture, and various systems like extensive, semi-intensive, intensive, and IMTA.
- Breeding & Farming Practices: Learn breeding, rearing, and farming techniques for European species while ensuring welfare and biosafety standards.
- Fish Health & Welfare: Monitor health, identify diseases, and maintain high welfare standards through habitat design, handling, and enrichment across systems like RAS and cage farming.
- RAS Technology & Water Management: Master Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) principles, including water quality, chemistry, and treatment technologies.
- Post-Harvest Management & Sustainability: Ensure product quality, safety, and compliance with food safety standards while adopting sustainable practices like resource recovery, waste minimization, and by-product valorization.
- Market Readiness & Innovation: Develop market-ready products, explore innovative extraction methods, and gain hands-on experience in fish valorization and product preparation.
