
This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of selective breeding principles, genetic diversity and genetic improvement in aquaculture species. Students will learn how to apply foundational genetic principles to breeding programs, assess genetic variability within populations, manage genetic risks such as inbreeding, utilize molecular tools for genetic analysis and implement strategies to enhance desirable traits in hatchery stocks. Additionally, students will explore ethical considerations and regulations related to genetic manipulation in aquaculture.
